The KENNAMETAL 1818841 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precise grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the Top Notch series standard, this insert carries the NR4094K style designation and is coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, providing strong wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding cutting environments. It features a 4.78 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 6.35 mm, with a full-radius geometry and a 2.39 mm corner radius. The positive rake angle of 10 degrees reduces cutting forces and promotes smooth chip flow. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning applications select this insert for its consistent performance across a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is intended for use in left-hand grooving applications on turning centers and CNC lathes. It is suited to external grooving, profiling, and copy-turning operations where a full-radius insert profile is required. The KC5025 grade is formulated for steel, stainless steel, and similar materials in the C2 and C6 material grade ranges. The K chip breaker geometry assists in controlling chip formation during medium-to-finish grooving passes. It is sold individually but must be ordered in multiples of 5 per the manufacturer minimum order requirement.
Designed for use with Top Notch series grooving toolholders accepting NR-style inserts with a seat size of 4. Compatible with KC5025 grade applications in C2 and C6 material classifications.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping guidelines for the Top Notch system. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or indexing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and accurate cutting geometry. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut rating for this insert style.
