The KENNAMETAL 1818507 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the NG3078K insert style designation with a KC5025 manufacturer grade and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that provides wear and heat resistance at the cutting edge. The insert is left-hand oriented with a 1.98 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm, and a 0.19 mm corner radius. A positive rake angle of 10 degrees and the K chip breaker geometry help manage chip flow during grooving passes. This insert is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working with ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials.
This insert fits Top Notch series toolholders configured for NG-style inserts. It is suited for metric-measurement machining applications in production turning environments where consistent groove width and depth control are required. The KC5025 grade with TiAlN coating is a common selection for interrupted cuts and applications demanding edge toughness alongside surface coating protection. The K chip breaker geometry makes it appropriate for moderate chip-load grooving where reliable chip evacuation is a priority.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders accepting NG-style inserts. Intended for left-hand grooving and parting applications on CNC lathes and turning centers using metric tooling setups.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Before changing inserts, power down the machine and ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification using the correct Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before installation to prevent improper seating and premature edge failure.
