The KENNAMETAL 1818483 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the NG2M200K geometry and KC5025 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, it delivers a 2 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.79 mm. The positive rake angle of 10 degrees reduces cutting forces and promotes clean chip evacuation. The K chip breaker geometry and left-hand orientation make this insert a direct choice for specific toolholder configurations where right-to-left grooving is required. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert suits grooving and parting-off operations in materials compatible with the KC5025 carbide grade, which carries material grades C2 and C6. It is well suited for applications requiring tight groove widths in the 2 mm range with depths falling within the 2 mm to 3 mm range. The TiAlN coating provides thermal resistance during higher-speed grooving passes. The 55-degree included angle and 0.19 mm corner radius support controlled chip formation and edge stability. This insert is sold individually per package, with a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders that accept the NG-style left-hand insert configuration. Confirm toolholder insert pocket style and hand orientation before ordering.
This insert is installed and replaced by CNC machinists or tool-crib technicians following standard insert-indexing procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping hardware specified for the Top Notch toolholder to avoid insert movement or breakage during cuts. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
