The KENNAMETAL 1818008 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Grade KC5025 carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating provides wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 1.58 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.79 mm, with a positive 10-degree rake angle and a K-style chip breaker that promotes efficient chip evacuation. A 0.19 mm corner radius and a 55-degree included angle define the cutting geometry. This insert is a right-hand configuration and is sized as an NG 2062 style, suited for tight-tolerance grooving and parting applications performed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
The 1818008 fits standard Top Notch grooving toolholders that accept the NG 2062 insert style. It is appropriate for external grooving on ferrous and non-ferrous materials in both light and moderate cutting conditions. The KC5025 grade with TiAlN finish is well-suited for interrupted cuts, dry machining, and applications where coolant use may be limited. Material grade classification is C2 and C6, covering a broad range of turning and grooving work on steel, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials. Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert to maintain proper geometry and clamping force. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for this insert style, as overloading can cause premature edge failure or insert fracture.
