The KENNAMETAL 1818001 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the manufacturer grade KC5025 with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous grooving cuts. It features a 0.25 inch (6.35 mm) cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 0.25 inch (6.35 mm), and a positive rake angle of 10 degrees. The K chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation in a variety of workpiece materials. Installation is performed by qualified machinists and CNC tooling technicians as part of a Top Notch series toolholder setup.
This insert is suited for grooving applications in medium to roughing turning operations on materials classified under C2 and C6 material grades. The right-hand orientation makes it appropriate for standard spindle-direction turning setups. The insert size designation 4250 with an insert seat size of 4 places it in a clearly defined toolholder seat category within the Top Notch series. Typical applications include external grooving, parting-adjacent operations, and profile grooving where controlled depth and chip management are priorities on both ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders accepting NG-style inserts with an insert seat size of 4. The MSC and manufacturer cross-reference number for this insert is NG4250R/LK. Verify toolholder seat size and insert orientation before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris before torquing the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert seat and clamping mechanism for wear before each insert change.
