The KENNAMETAL 1817975 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which improves wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted cuts and continuous grooving passes. The insert features a left-hand orientation with a 1.19 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 1.27 mm, and a 0.09 mm corner radius. A positive rake angle of 10 degrees and the K chip breaker geometry help control chip flow in tight grooving applications. Machinists and CNC operators working with small-diameter or precision grooving work will find this insert suited for metric-dimensioned applications.
This insert is intended for use in Top Notch series grooving toolholders that accept the NG-style insert with a size 2047 designation. It is suited for light to medium grooving passes where a narrow cutting width and controlled chip formation are required. The left-hand configuration makes it appropriate for specific spindle orientations or face grooving setups where a standard right-hand insert would not engage properly. Typical applications include grooving on steel and alloy materials classified under material grades C2 and C6.
Designed for use in Top Notch series NG-style grooving toolholders accepting a size 2047 insert. Compatible with material grades C2 and C6 per the manufacturer grade designation KC5025.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or replacing the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque and seating procedures to avoid insert movement during the cut. Verify left-hand orientation against the toolholder specification before engaging the workpiece.
