The KENNAMETAL 1817635 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Designated insert style NG with size 3M200, it features a 2.00 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm. The insert is finished with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering heat resistance and wear performance suited to moderate-to-high cutting speeds. Grade KC5025 is a coated carbide grade positioned for steel and general-purpose turning applications. Installation requires a compatible Top Notch toolholder. This insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of five units.
This insert is intended for right-hand grooving operations in metalworking environments including production shops and job shops running CNC or manual turning equipment. The positive rake geometry with a 10-degree rake angle and K-style chip breaker supports controlled chip evacuation during narrow grooving passes. A corner radius of 0.19 mm (0.0075 decimal inch) provides edge definition suitable for close-tolerance groove profiles. Measurement type is metric, and the insert targets material grades C2 and C6. Typical applications include external groove turning on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces where consistent width control and chip management are required.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders accepting NG-style inserts, size 3M200. The manufacturer part number cross-reference listed in source data is NG3M200RK.
This insert is installed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician into a compatible Top Notch series grooving toolholder. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamp screw. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamping surfaces for wear or debris before seating the new insert.
