The KENNAMETAL 1817616 is a solid carbide turning insert with a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, designated DNMG331FP under the ANSI standard and DNMG110404 under ISO. It carries a KC5010 grade PVD TiAlN coating engineered for high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, and superalloy workpieces. The insert measures 11.63 mm (approximately 0.916 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius. It features a negative rake geometry, neutral hand orientation, and an FP chip breaker optimized for finishing operations. Part of the KENLOC series, this insert is held in place by clamp and pin and delivers four usable cutting edges per insert.
This insert is suited for finishing-pass turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, and superalloys and titanium. It also performs across cast iron and aluminum applications where high wear resistance is the priority. The negative side clearance and honed cutting edge style reduce chipping and extend tool life during light-to-moderate material removal. The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.049 inches), confirming its role as a finishing tool rather than a roughing insert.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders that accept DNMG331 inserts. Meets ANSI and ISO insert geometry standards. Compatible with multi-use turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always index or replace inserts with the machine spindle stopped and in a locked or e-stopped state. Use the correct torque wrench for the clamp screw to avoid seat damage or insert cracking. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for debris or wear before seating a new insert.
