The KENNAMETAL 1817572 is a CNMG431FP solid carbide turning insert in the KC5010 grade, designed for high-performance metal cutting in turning, facing, and boring operations. It features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5 inches inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156 inch) corner radius. The cutting edge is honed and operates at a 15-degree rake angle with a negative rake geometry. It belongs to the KENLOC series and is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 5.
This insert is suited for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium in both roughing and finishing contexts. The FP chip breaker geometry is designed to manage chip control across these materials. Typical applications include external turning and facing on CNC lathes and turning centers in production environments. The KENLOC series toolholder clamping system uses a clamp and pin holding method to secure the insert during operation. This insert is appropriate for job shops, production machining facilities, and aerospace or heavy industry environments where P, M, and S workpiece material codes are common.
Designed for use with KENLOC series toolholders accepting CNMG431 inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for multi-use applications including turning, facing, and boring. Primary workpiece material codes P (steel), M (stainless steel), and S (superalloys and titanium) are supported; secondary workpiece material codes N, P, and S also apply.
Installation is performed by machining technicians using the KENLOC clamp and pin holding method — ensure the insert seat and locating pin are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for this insert size. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping procedure for secure insert retention.
