The KENNAMETAL 1817571 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Grade KC5025 carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating delivers wear resistance and thermal stability in a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert features a right-hand orientation, a 0.125-inch (3.18 mm) cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 0.150 inch (3.81 mm), and a positive rake angle of 10 degrees. The K chip breaker geometry controls chip flow during grooving passes. This insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Suited for external grooving, recessing, and light turning on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, this insert fits applications where tight tolerances and consistent chip control are required. The NF-style insert seats into compatible Top Notch toolholders used on production and job-shop turning equipment. The 55-degree included angle and 0.0075-inch (0.19 mm) corner radius make it appropriate for groove profiles that require a defined shoulder and controlled corner break. Machinists and tooling specialists working in production turning environments will find this insert suitable for moderate to high cutting speeds where PVD-coated carbide grades are preferred.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders that accept NF-style grooving inserts. Compatible toolholder reference: NF3125R/LK. Verify toolholder bore and clamping specifications before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping guidelines. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all power is isolated before changing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or contamination prior to seating a new insert. Do not exceed the recommended maximum depth of cut range for this insert grade and geometry.
