The KENNAMETAL 1808143 is a left-hand MCLN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for negative rake turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. It accepts CN..43. series inserts, secured by a clamp and screw holding method for rigid, repeatable insert location. The 3/4 inch by 3/4 inch square shank and 4 inch overall length make it a standard-reach holder suited for general OD turning. The 5-degree lead angle and 1/2 inch insert inscribed circle support controlled chip flow and stable cutting across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. This toolholder is part of the Kennametal Kenloc series and is built from steel construction for durability under production cutting loads. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary installers.
This toolholder fits a wide range of production and job-shop turning applications where a left-hand, negative rake geometry is required. It is appropriate for external OD turning operations on conventional lathes and CNC turning centers with standard rectangular shank tool blocks or turrets. The 3/4 inch shank height and width match common tool block bore sizes found in shop-standard quick-change and bolt-down turret systems. The 1 inch back-of-bar to cutting edge dimension positions the insert for proper center-height alignment in typical setups.
Designed for use with CN..43. series indexable inserts; complete insert compatibility is CN.. 432. Intended for left-hand external turning operations in standard rectangular shank turret or quick-change tool block systems accepting a 3/4 inch shank.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the lathe spindle before inserting or changing toolholders in the turret. Secure the shank fully within the tool block to the manufacturer-specified engagement depth using appropriate torque on the clamping screws. Verify center-height alignment using the 1 inch back-of-bar to cutting edge reference before taking a first cut.
