The KENNAMETAL 1804832 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for high-performance drilling operations in metal-cutting applications. This trigon-shaped insert features an 84-degree included angle and is ground to an 8-degree relief angle, providing a strong cutting edge geometry suited for demanding chip loads. The HP chipbreaker is engineered to manage chip evacuation efficiently in deep-hole and indexable-drill tooling. A PVD-applied TiN and TiCN multilayer coating improves surface hardness and wear resistance. Licensed machinists and tooling technicians specify this insert for production drilling where insert life and dimensional consistency are critical.
This insert is used in CNC machining centers, turning centers with live tooling, and dedicated drilling machines in both job shop and production environments. The DFT insert style is compatible with indexable drill bodies that accept DFTHP-style trigon inserts. Applications include drilling into steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces at material grades C5 and C6. Indexable drill insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down the machine and lock out the spindle before replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the tool manufacturer's specified seating procedure - do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping mechanism for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
