Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 1803021 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing operations in CNC and manual turning applications. Manufactured to ANSI insert code CPMT3251 and ISO code CPMT09T304, this insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and an FW chip breaker geometry engineered for wiper finishing passes. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting edge with positive rake and positive side clearance. The insert measures 9.67 mm (0.3808 decimal inch) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 5/32-inch thickness, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. Holding method is screw-on, and two cutting edges are available per insert.

This insert is suited for finishing and semi-finishing cuts on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and aluminum in turning, facing, and boring operations. The KC5010 grade offers high wear resistance through moderate wear resistance and toughness across P, M, K, N, and S workpiece material classifications. It is a neutral-hand insert compatible with screw-on style toolholders, making it applicable in both production turning cells and job-shop environments. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches).

Compatibility

Designed for use in screw-on style CPMT toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Compatible with turning, facing, and boring operations as defined by ANSI insert code CPMT3251 and ISO insert code CPMT09T304.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the insert screw and ensure the seating pocket is clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Do not overtighten the clamp screw, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force.
