The KENNAMETAL 1802983 is a CCMT3251FW KT315-grade cermet turning insert designed for high-precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a multilayer PVD coating of TiN, TiCN, and TiN applied over a cermet substrate, delivering high wear resistance on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert geometry provides a strong cutting edge with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle. The FW chip breaker is configured as a wiper-finishing geometry, producing superior surface finish at elevated feed rates. This insert is sold individually but requires a minimum order of 5 units per transaction.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations in both production and job-shop environments. Its wiper edge geometry makes it appropriate for finishing passes where tight surface-finish tolerances are required. The KT315 grade is optimized for high wear resistance across steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) workpiece material categories. It seats in CCMT-style screw-on toolholders and is compatible with standard ANSI and ISO insert seating systems. Machinists and CNC operators working on precision finishing of ferrous materials will find this grade particularly effective at controlled depths of cut.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-on toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code CCMT3251 and ISO insert code CCMT09T304. Compatible with standard screw-on clamping systems that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 80-degree diamond insert with a 0.1732-inch hole diameter.
This insert is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians using the appropriate CCMT screw-on toolholder and a Torx or hex key for the clamping screw. Before indexing or replacing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in a safe state. Clean the insert pocket of chips and debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and repeatability. Always verify insert orientation and chip breaker direction before resuming cutting.
