The KENNAMETAL 1796551 is a carbide threading insert designed for precision thread-cutting operations on both internal and external workpieces. Built in the Top Notch series with an NAS insert style, this left-hand insert carries a KC5025 manufacturer grade and a PVD-applied TiAlN finish for extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. It is engineered for Stub Acme thread profiles at 5 TPI with an included angle of 29 degrees. The insert measures 0.1949 inches thick and features a cutting tip width of 0.0791 inches, making it suitable for close-tolerance threading work on a variety of materials rated at material grades C2 and C6.
This insert is intended for use in metal-cutting environments where Stub Acme thread forms are required, covering both internal and external threading applications. Typical users include CNC machinists, toolroom technicians, and production floor operators working with lathes or turning centers equipped with Top Notch compatible toolholders. The left-hand orientation makes it the correct choice for left-hand thread generation in applications such as lead screws, jack screws, and power transmission components where Stub Acme profiles are specified.
Designed for use with Kennametal Top Notch series threading toolholders that accept size 3 NAS-style inserts. Suitable for Stub Acme internal and external threading applications on compatible CNC lathes and turning centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve correct clamping force without over-torquing the insert screw. Verify insert hand orientation and thread profile angle against the job print before beginning a threading pass.
