The KENNAMETAL 1796161 is a carbide threading insert designed for precision thread cutting in both internal and external applications. Running the KC5025 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN finish, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of threading operations. It covers an external pitch range of 0.60 to 2.50 mm (10 to 44 TPI) and an internal pitch range of 1.00 to 2.50 mm (9 to 24 TPI), making it a versatile tool for shops handling metric and unified thread forms. The left-hand, partial-profile 60-degree geometry suits machinists working on specialized thread orientation requirements.
This insert fits into the Top Notch series tooling system and is suited for turning centers and CNC lathes in production and job-shop environments. It handles both internal and external thread profiles at a 60-degree included angle, covering common thread standards encountered in general machining, tooling, and component manufacturing. The TiAlN PVD coating supports dry or minimal-coolant cutting strategies and performs well in alloy steels and other moderate-to-hard workpiece materials rated at material grades C2 and C6.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders that accept size 3 threading inserts. Compatible with material grades C2 and C6 workpieces.
Threading inserts should be installed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician following the toolholder manufacturer's seating and torque guidelines. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping components for wear or damage before seating the new insert. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as this affects thread accuracy and can cause tool failure.
