The KENNAMETAL 1796159 is a carbide threading insert in the Top Notch series, designed for both internal and external thread-cutting operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. It carries a TiAlN finish applied via PVD coating, which improves wear resistance and heat tolerance during high-speed threading passes. The insert is ground to a partial profile 60-degree included angle, covering a wide pitch range: 0.60 to 2.50 mm (10 to 44 TPI) for external threads and 1.00 to 2.50 mm (9 to 24 TPI) for internal threads. Right-hand cutting geometry and a corner radius of 0.08 mm (0.003 inches) contribute to accurate thread form on a variety of workpiece materials. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible Top Notch toolholders as a direct indexable replacement.
This insert is suited for threading operations in production and job-shop environments where consistent thread geometry across mixed pitch ranges is required. The KC5025 grade, classified at material grades C2 and C6, is well-matched to threading in steel, stainless, and similar materials where PVD-coated carbide provides an advantage over uncoated tooling. This insert is installed and indexed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or rotating the insert. Use the correct Top Notch insert screw and torque driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or wear before each index to maintain thread accuracy and prevent premature insert failure.
