The KENNAMETAL 1796157 is a carbide threading insert in the NTK2L style, designed for cutting both internal and external threads on metal workpieces. It carries a KC5010 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN finish, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert conforms to a partial profile 60-degree thread standard and is configured for left-hand threading operations. It handles external pitch ranges of 0.60 to 1.75 mm (14 to 44 TPI) and internal pitch ranges of 1.00 to 2.00 mm (12 to 24 TPI), covering a wide range of common thread forms. Machinists and tooling technicians use this insert on CNC lathes and manual threading equipment.
This insert is suited for threading operations in general machining environments, including job shops and production facilities handling a mix of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The Top Notch series design provides positive clamping and consistent insert seating in compatible Top Notch toolholders. Left-hand orientation makes it appropriate for reverse-feed threading and specific lathe setups where a standard right-hand insert cannot be used. Material grades C3 and C4 indicate suitability for cast iron and non-ferrous materials as well as some steel applications.
Designed for use with Top Notch series threading toolholders that accept size 2 NTK-style inserts. Consult toolholder documentation to confirm left-hand insert compatibility before installation.
Threading inserts of this type are installed and replaced by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench or clamping screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert securely without cracking the carbide. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
