The KENNAMETAL 1796117 is a carbide threading insert designed for precision thread-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, it delivers improved wear resistance and thermal stability during high-speed threading passes. The insert follows the Top Notch series geometry, designated style NT3RK, with a 60-degree included angle and a partial profile thread form. It handles both internal and external threading applications on a single insert. The KC5010 grade, a PVD-coated carbide, is suited for threading steel, stainless, and other materials in the C3 and C4 material grade range. Weight is approximately 0.02 pounds per insert.
This insert covers external pitch ranges of 1.25 to 4.00 mm and 6 to 20 TPI, and internal pitch ranges of 2.00 to 5.00 mm and 5 to 12 TPI. It is used in production threading on turning centers where consistent thread form and tool life are required. The right-hand cut orientation makes it suited for standard right-hand thread profiles in both through-bore and external diameter applications. The K chipbreaker geometry assists in chip control during internal threading where chip evacuation is critical. This insert is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders accepting NT-style inserts, size 3. Fits both internal and external threading applications within the stated pitch range.
Threading inserts should be installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician following the toolholder manufacturer's seating and clamping specifications. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or damage before seating the new insert. Do not exceed the pitch or material grade limits stated for this insert, as misapplication can result in insert fracture or thread-form error.
