The KENNAMETAL 1796091 is a carbide threading insert designed for precision thread-cutting operations on both internal and external workpieces. Manufactured to the NTP2R insert style within the Top Notch series, this insert features a TiAlN finish applied via PVD coating, which improves wear resistance and thermal stability during high-speed threading passes. It cuts a partial profile 60-degree thread form and handles external pitches from 0.70 to 3.00 mm (8 to 36 TPI) and internal pitches from 1.25 to 3.50 mm (7 to 20 TPI). The corner radius measures 0.1 mm (0.004 inches), and tip-to-top height is 1.91 mm (0.075 inches). Machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments install this insert into compatible Top Notch toolholders.
This insert is suited for threading operations on a wide range of materials, covering both metric and unified thread standards at a 60-degree included angle. Right-hand cutting orientation makes it compatible with standard CNC lathes and turning centers running conventional spindle direction. The KC5025 grade designation targets applications where PVD-coated carbide performance is specified, particularly on materials falling within the C2 and C6 material grade classifications. It is appropriate for threading steel, alloy steel, and similar workpiece materials in both production and repair threading scenarios where consistent thread form accuracy is required across both internal bores and external diameters.
Designed for use with Top Notch series NTP-style threading toolholders that accept size 2 inserts. Compatible with right-hand toolholder bodies configured for internal and external threading operations.
This insert is installed and replaced by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert to maintain proper tip height and thread form accuracy. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw; do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamp load.
