The KENNAMETAL 1793772 is a carbide cutoff and grooving insert designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the A2 series standard, this insert features a 2.2 mm cutting width (0.0866 inches) and a neutral lead angle with a 2-degree relief angle. The KC5025 grade carbide substrate is finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which promotes heat resistance and extended tool life in a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert is held in place by a clamp-style toolholder and includes a CR chipbreaker geometry suited for controlled chip evacuation during cutoff and grooving passes.
This insert is used in metal-cutting applications requiring consistent parting and grooving performance on bar stock, tubing, and turned components. It is rated for both cut-off and grooving operations and carries material grade designations of C2 and C6, indicating suitability for machining cast iron and non-ferrous metals as well as general-purpose steel turning. The insert seat size is 2, and the insert is compatible with A2 series clamp-style toolholders. Typical users are CNC machinists, toolroom technicians, and production turning operators working in job shop and high-volume manufacturing environments.
Designed for use with A2 series clamp-style cutoff and grooving toolholders that accept insert seat size 2. Verify toolholder insert pocket specifications before installation.
Installation of cutting inserts should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians with the machine powered off and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert securely. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Never run a visibly chipped or cracked insert, as insert failure at cutting speeds presents a serious safety hazard.
