The KENNAMETAL 1784177 is a carbide cutoff insert designed for parting and cut-off operations on lathes and turning centers. It belongs to the A2 insert series and carries the KC5025 manufacturer grade, a PVD-coated carbide grade finished with a TiAlN coating for wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert measures 2.2 mm (0.0866 inches) in cutting width and 4.77 mm (0.1878 inches) in cutting height, with a 16-degree right-hand lead angle and a 2-degree relief angle. A CF chipbreaker geometry is incorporated to manage chip flow during grooving and parting applications. Toolroom machinists and CNC turning center operators install this insert into compatible A2-series clamp-style toolholders.
This insert is suited for cut-off and grooving applications on CNC lathes and manual turning machines. The right-hand lead angle and CF chipbreaker make it well-matched to external parting on small-to-medium-diameter workpieces where chip control and edge stability are priorities. The KC5025 grade with TiAlN PVD coating is rated for steel and cast iron machining at moderate-to-high cutting speeds. This insert uses a clamp-style holding method and fits insert seat size 2 toolholders within the A2 series. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use with A2 series, insert seat size 2, clamp-style toolholders. No additional specific compatible model numbers were provided in the product data.
Installation is performed by machining professionals on CNC or manual lathes. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench or clamp screw driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamp — do not over-tighten by hand. Confirm correct insert orientation and lead angle direction match the toolholder before beginning a cut.
