Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 1783137 is a DNMG431FW KT315 cermet turning insert designed for high-wear-resistance machining of steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. It features a multilayer PVD coating of TiN, TiCN, and TiN, which provides thermal stability and extended edge life in finishing operations. The insert carries a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The FW chip breaker geometry is engineered for wiper finishing, producing tight surface finishes at elevated feed rates. This insert is installed and indexed by machinists and CNC lathe operators in production turning environments.

This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) workpiece materials. The KT315 grade delivers high wear resistance across all three material classifications, making it appropriate for both general-purpose and precision finishing passes in light-to-moderate cut depths. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). It fits toolholders within the KENLOC series and is compatible with clamp and pin holding methods.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can crack the insert body. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
