The KENNAMETAL 1782896 is a round solid carbide turning insert in the RCMT43 geometry, designed for high-performance metal cutting in lathe, facing, and boring operations. Manufactured to ANSI and ISO standards, this insert carries the KC5010 grade designation and features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for elevated wear resistance at cutting temperatures. The 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 0.1875-inch thickness, and 0.25-inch corner radius define its cutting geometry. The screw-on holding method and positive rake angle contribute to secure seating and consistent chip control during interrupted and continuous cuts on steel and stainless steel workpieces.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. It is commonly used in CNC turning centers and manual lathes across production machining, job shop, and maintenance environments. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable across a wide range of toolholders. The KC5010 grade is engineered for high to moderate wear resistance and toughness across P, M, K, N, and S workpiece material classifications. Medium chip breaker operation targets mid-range feed and depth-of-cut parameters.
Designed for use in screw-on style round insert toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO RCMT43 / RCMT120400 specifications. Compatible with turning, facing, and boring toolholder bodies that accept a 0.5-inch inscribed circle round insert with a 0.2165-inch hole diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or indexing. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw using the manufacturer-recommended torque wrench for screw-on style inserts. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert, as a damaged pocket will affect runout and surface finish.
