The KENNAMETAL 1749648 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable insert drills in demanding metal-cutting applications. Carrying the DFRGD insert style with a GD chipbreaker geometry, this insert is PVD-coated with a TiN and TiCN multilayer finish using the KC7140 manufacturer grade. It features a 0.193 inch inscribed circle, a thickness of 0.1098 inches, and a 0.4 mm (0.0157 inch) corner radius. The KC7140 grade is suited for material grades C5 and C6, making it appropriate for machining cast iron and steels at moderate-to-high cutting speeds. Installation and changeover are handled by machinists and tooling specialists in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for use in indexable drill bodies that accept DFRGD-style inserts with an insert size designation of 020204. It is well suited for hole-making operations in ferrous metals, including steels and cast irons, in both production machining centers and manual milling or drilling setups. The GD chipbreaker geometry supports effective chip control across a range of feed rates typical in drilling applications. Confirm holder compatibility and insert seat geometry before installation to ensure proper seating and runout.
Designed as a replacement indexable drill insert for drill bodies accepting DFRGD-style inserts with insert size 020204. Verify holder manufacturer specifications for seat geometry and clamping compatibility before ordering.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before handling any indexable tooling. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer to achieve proper clamping torque - do not over-torque the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for damage, chips, or debris before seating the new insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated and secure before resuming cutting operations.
