The KENNAMETAL 1747635 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCGT21505HP configuration, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and offered in the KC5010 manufacturer grade. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a positive side clearance, making it suited for finishing operations. It measures 7.75 mm (0.6104 inches) in length with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a corner radius of 0.0079 inches. The screw-on holding method and neutral hand orientation allow straightforward indexing. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, aerospace, and production turning environments install this insert in compatible toolholders for steel, stainless steel, and superalloy finishing passes.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. Its primary workpiece materials are steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K), with secondary suitability for nonferrous materials (N) and superalloys and titanium (S). The KC5010 grade delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it appropriate for finishing cuts where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priorities. The HP chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation at finishing depths of cut up to 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches).
Designed for use in screw-on style DCGT toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code DCGT21505 and ISO insert code DCGT070202. Suitable for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, nonferrous metals, and superalloys and titanium.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Before indexing or replacing the insert, power down the machine and confirm all axes are at rest. Use the appropriate screw and driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert - do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide body. Confirm insert seating and clearance angles against the toolholder pocket before resuming cuts.
