The KENNAMETAL 1743970 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for cutting internal NPT threads on CNC lathes and threading machines. Running the KC5025 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert handles right-hand internal threading at 14 threads per inch. The insert follows ISO code LT16NR14NPT and features a 3/8-inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.1430 inches (3.44 mm). The TiAlN finish provides heat and wear resistance suited to interrupted cuts and continuous threading passes on hard or abrasive materials.
This insert is intended for production and job-shop threading operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. It fits standard NR-style toolholders accepting size 16 inserts and is suited to applications where consistent NPT thread form and finish are required. The right-hand cutting geometry and internal thread configuration make it a direct fit for pipe-thread programs on CNC turning centers targeting 3/8-inch NPT bore profiles.
Designed for NR-style insert seats accepting size 16 laydown threading inserts. Confirmed compatible workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is clean and undamaged before seating the insert. Torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Verify thread-form alignment and programmed pitch before taking the first threading pass.
