The KENNAMETAL 1743739 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external UNJ thread forms on a right-hand cutting path. Manufactured to ISO code LT16ER16UNJ and supplied in grade KC5025, this insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that supports consistent performance across demanding thread-turning applications. It runs at 16 threads per inch (TPI) and features a 3/8-inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle with a thickness of 0.1430 decimal inch (3.44 mm). The ER insert style seats in standard LT-style toolholders. Machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert for precision thread profiles where aerospace-standard UNJ form is required.
This insert is suited for threading operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The UNJ thread standard specifies a controlled root radius, making this insert appropriate for aerospace and high-fatigue applications where standard UN form is insufficient. It is used in CNC lathes and turning centers equipped with LT-style external threading toolholders. The KC5025 grade with TiAlN coating is positioned for interrupted cuts and difficult-to-machine materials where edge toughness and thermal resistance are priorities.
Designed for use in LT-style external threading toolholders accepting ER insert style with a 16 insert size code. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and clamping system compatibility before installation. No additional specific model compatibility data was provided in the product input.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key torque driver to secure the insert clamp — follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping specification, as no torque value is supplied with this insert. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or damage before installing a fresh insert.
