The KENNAMETAL 1729817 is an ER16 series collet designed for use in CNC machining centers, milling machines, and other rotating spindle applications that accept ER16 toolholders. This collet holds a 0.1875 inch (3/16 inch) shank diameter tool and delivers a Total Indicator Runout (TIR) of 0.0152 mm (0.0006 inch), supporting tight-tolerance machining operations. The overall length is 1.083 inches. Machinists, tool room technicians, and CNC setup personnel install this collet as part of a standard ER16 collet chuck assembly.
This collet is suited for light to medium-duty milling, drilling, tapping, and reaming operations in both production and job-shop environments. The ER16 series is widely used in compact spindles found on benchtop and vertical machining centers, as well as CNC lathes with live tooling. The minimum collet capacity is 0.1475 inches, allowing a modest clamping range typical of ER-style collets.
Designed for use with ER16 collet chucks and ER16 collet nuts that conform to the standard ER16 toolholder specification. Compatible with any spindle or toolholder assembly accepting the ER16 collet series.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Before changing collets, power down the spindle completely and confirm the machine is in a safe, locked-out state per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Insert the collet into the ER16 collet nut before threading the nut onto the toolholder, and torque the nut using a calibrated ER collet wrench to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the collet seating surface and collet bore for chips or debris before assembly to protect TIR performance.
