The KENNAMETAL 1724415 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for right-hand internal threading operations. It carries the LT16NRA60 insert style designation and is manufactured in grade KC5010 with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. The insert produces a partial profile 60-degree thread form and covers a thread range of 48 to 16 TPI, corresponding to a pitch range of 0.50 to 1.50 mm. With a 3/8 inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.1430 inches (3.44 mm), it seats in standard 16NR-style laydown threading toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators use this insert for precision internal threading in ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
This insert is suited for internal threading on CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments. The KC5010 grade is a PVD-coated carbide substrate intended for threading at controlled cutting parameters. The partial profile 60-degree geometry makes it compatible with Unified (UN), metric, and other 60-degree thread standards where the insert tip generates the thread form without requiring an exact TPI match to the programmed pitch. It is commonly used in both light and moderate production runs where consistent thread quality and insert life are priorities.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard LT16NR-style laydown threading toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.1551 inch (3.94 mm) hole diameter. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against the manufacturer toolholder catalog for the 16NR insert pocket specification.
This insert is installed and replaced by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and de-energize the machine tool, and engage the spindle lock before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torx or hex key specified for the toolholder clamping screw - do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamp force. Verify insert seating and edge condition before returning the machine to cycle.
