The KENNAMETAL 1718015 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ISO designation SDPT1204EDERGB and ANSI designation SDPT43EDER8GB. It is engineered for positive-rake face milling and shoulder milling operations in machining centers and milling machines. The insert features a TiAlN coating applied by PVD process, a 90-degree included angle with a square shape, four usable cutting edges, a 0.0315-inch corner radius, and a 15-degree relief angle. Installation is by screw clamping. This insert is specified by machinists and tooling engineers working in aerospace, general manufacturing, and precision machining environments where consistent tool life on difficult materials is required.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium-based workpieces designated under material application codes P, M, and S. Its positive rake geometry and honed cutting edge style reduce cutting forces on tough materials, making it well matched to finishing and semi-finishing passes. The GB chip breaker geometry promotes reliable chip control across these workpiece categories. Designed for use in screw-clamp milling toolholders that accept SDPT-series square inserts conforming to ISO SDPT1204 and ANSI SDPT43 specifications. Compatible with C5, C6, and C7 material grade applications. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seat dimensions against the ISO and ANSI codes before installation.
This insert is installed and replaced by machinists or tooling technicians following standard insert-indexing procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle completely before accessing the toolholder. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw; do not use impact drivers on insert screws. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated before resuming operation.
