The KENNAMETAL 1713512 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable drilling tool bodies that accept the DFT insert style. Manufactured to the KC7140 grade with a PVD-applied TiN and TiCN multilayer coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding metal-cutting operations. The trigon (84-degree included angle) geometry with the MD chipbreaker promotes controlled chip formation during drilling. Key dimensional specifications include a 10 mm (0.3937 inches) inscribed circle, a 0.8 mm (0.0315 inches) corner radius, and a thickness of 0.1476 inches. Insert size designation is 06T308. Licensed machinists and tool crib personnel working in production or job-shop environments are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is suited for indexable drilling applications in ferrous metals and other materials within the C5 and C6 material grade range. The MD chipbreaker geometry is engineered for controlled chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations. The 8-degree relief angle supports positive cutting action, and the 4.4 mm hole diameter accommodates the clamping hardware of compatible DFT-style drill bodies. This insert is intended for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turning centers equipped with appropriate indexable drill toolholders.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for KENNAMETAL DFT-style indexable drill bodies requiring the 06T308 insert size in the KC7140 grade.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully de-energized and spindle locked. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping procedure when seating the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before installing a new insert. Confirm correct insert orientation and positive seating before resuming cutting operations.
