The KENNAMETAL 1713356 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the ANSI insert code CPGT3252 and ISO code CPGT09T308, this insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which delivers high wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a strong cutting geometry with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle. With a 1/32-inch corner radius, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle diameter, and an insert length of 9.67 mm, this insert is engineered for finishing and light machining applications where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are the priority. KC5010 is the manufacturer grade designation.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations in both residential shop and industrial production environments. Primary workpiece material compatibility spans steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, with secondary suitability for non-ferrous materials. The screw-on holding method provides secure seating in compatible tool holders. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable across a range of standard tooling setups. Two cutting edges are available per insert. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts and light material removal passes where chip control and dimensional accuracy are critical.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the manufacturer-specified method without over-torquing the screw seat. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
