The KENNAMETAL 1713203 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for precision drilling operations in metal cutting applications. Manufactured to Insert Style DFT with a Trigon (84-degree included angle) shape, this insert features a KC7140 grade carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiN and TiCN multilayer coating. The inscribed circle measures 15.00 mm (0.5906 inches), with a thickness of 0.2067 inches and a 0.80 mm corner radius. The MD chipbreaker geometry is engineered to control chip flow and reduce cutting forces during indexable drilling. Licensed machinists and CNC toolroom technicians install this insert in compatible indexable drill bodies.
This insert is suited for indexable drilling in ferrous metals, including steels classified under ISO Material Grades C5 and C6. The 8-degree relief angle and MD chipbreaker make it a practical choice for moderate-to-high speed drilling operations in production machining environments, including CNC turning centers and machining centers. Insert Size designation is 090508, with a length of 9.92 mm (0.3906 inches). The 5.5 mm hole diameter accommodates standard insert-retention screws used in compatible drill bodies.
Designed as an OEM-style indexable drill insert for use in compatible DFTMD-series indexable drill bodies requiring a Trigon DFT-style insert with a 15.00 mm inscribed circle and 090508 insert size designation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician with the machine powered down and locked out before any insert change. Use the correct Torx or hex drive key specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat the retention screw - do not overtighten or use impact tools on insert screws. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or damage before seating the new insert. Follow the drill body manufacturer's recommended cutting parameters for feed rate and spindle speed when commissioning a new insert.
