The KENNAMETAL 1698209 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for right-hand internal threading operations on CNC lathes and threading centers. Manufactured to the LT16NRG60CB geometry in grade KC5025 with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert cuts partial-profile 60-degree threads across a range of 14 to 8 TPI (1.75 to 3.00 mm pitch). The 3/8-inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle and 3.44 mm thickness fit standard laydown toolholders. KC5025 is a CVD-alternative PVD grade suited for threading steels and stainless at moderate to high cutting speeds. Machinists and CNC operators specify this insert for precision internal thread forms where consistent flank contact and controlled chip evacuation are required.
This insert is used in production and job-shop turning environments for cutting internal threads on ferrous and stainless workpieces. The partial-profile 60-degree thread form covers unified (UN) and metric M thread families within the supported pitch range. Typical applications include threading bored holes in hydraulic fittings, fastener components, and fluid-system housings. The CB chipbreaker geometry promotes chip control during internal threading passes where chip clearance is limited by bore geometry. Installation is performed by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals.
Designed as a replacement or replenishment insert for LT16-style laydown threading toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with a 3.44 mm thickness and screw-down mounting.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure without overtightening. Verify insert orientation and hand designation match the toolholder and programmed thread direction before resuming cutting operations.
