The KENNAMETAL 1623271 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the ANSI designation DCGT2151HP and grade KC5410. It is designed for precision finishing operations on aluminum and non-ferrous metals. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle, producing clean cuts with minimal edge buildup. A TiB2 (titanium diboride) PVD coating delivers high wear resistance suited to high-speed non-ferrous finishing. The cutting edge is honed for smooth surface finishes. With 2 usable cutting edges and screw-on mounting, it is a practical choice for production turning environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for finishing applications on non-ferrous metals, including aluminum, brass, and copper alloys. Suitable applications include turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on CNC lathes and turning centers. The HP chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to moderate depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). The inscribed circle measures 0.25 inches, the insert length is 7.75 mm (0.6104 inches), and the corner radius is 1/64 inch (0.0156 inches). These dimensions align with standard toolholders accepting DCGT-style screw-on inserts.
Designed as an OEM-style screw-on turning insert compatible with DCGT-style toolholders accepting a 0.25-inch inscribed circle. Conforms to ANSI insert code DCGT2151 and ISO insert code DCGT070204.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before changing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder torque specification provided in the toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and edge alignment.
