The KENNAMETAL 1620373 is a TPMT2151LF-geometry cermet turning insert in the KT315 grade, designed for finishing and light machining operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The insert features a trilayer PVD coating stack of TiN, TiCN, and TiN over a cermet substrate, delivering high wear resistance across ISO material groups P, M, and K. Key geometry details include a 60-degree triangle shape (T), a 0.25 inch inscribed circle, a 1/64 inch (0.0156 inch) corner radius, an 11-degree relief angle, and a positive rake angle of 5 degrees. The screw-on holding method provides secure, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders. This insert is installed by machinists and tooling technicians on CNC turning centers and manual lathes.
This insert is suited for finishing passes and light material removal on steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), and cast iron (ISO K) workpieces. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for low cutting forces and tight chip control at finishing depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inch). Multi-use application coverage includes turning, facing, and boring operations. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both right- and left-hand toolholders where TPMT-style inserts are specified. The insert conforms to both ANSI (TPMT2151) and ISO (TPMT110204) standards.
Designed for use in screw-on TPMT-style turning toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. Material grade designations C3 and C7 apply.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and screw driver for the screw-on clamping system to avoid stripping the insert pocket or cracking the cermet substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new edge.
