The KENNAMETAL 1611338 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation WNMG431FF and ISO designation WNMG080404, finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and manufactured under the KC5010 grade. This insert seats in the KENLOC toolholder system and is designed for finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The FF chip breaker geometry produces a rake angle of 20 degrees, optimizing chip control at light depths of cut. With six usable cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, the insert delivers consistent high wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions. Licensed machinists and CNC turning technicians install this insert in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning, facing, and boring operations in both light-duty finishing and moderate material-removal passes. The KC5010 grade targets workpiece materials coded P, M, K, N, and S, covering common steel alloys through difficult-to-machine superalloys and titanium. Its negative side clearance and negative rake geometry make it compatible with rigid, high-horsepower turning setups where edge security matters. The maximum recommended depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), making this insert appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes rather than heavy roughing.

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in an energy-isolated state per applicable lockout-tagout procedures. Use the correct torque wrench or clamp screw driver specified for the KENLOC toolholder to seat the insert without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before placing a new insert. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as edge failure at cutting speed creates a safety hazard and can damage the workpiece and toolholder.
