The KENNAMETAL 1606048 is a slotted hydraulic chuck sleeve designed to reduce the bore diameter of a hydraulic chuck body, allowing smaller-shank tooling to run with the clamping force and concentricity accuracy that hydraulic expansion chucks provide. With an inside diameter of 0.3125 inches (5/16 inches), an outside diameter of 0.5000 inches (1/2 inches), and a length under head of 1.575 inches, this sleeve fits snugly into compatible hydraulic chuck bodies. It features through-coolant capability, supporting high-pressure coolant delivery directly to the cutting zone. Manufactured from steel, it is built to withstand the clamping pressures typical of hydraulic toolholding systems.
This sleeve is used in CNC machining centers, milling, drilling, and reaming operations where hydraulic chucks are the preferred toolholding method. It is suited for shops running small-diameter carbide or HSS tooling that requires a precision-fit reduction sleeve rather than a direct-mount chuck. Through-coolant support makes it appropriate for deep-hole drilling and high-speed operations where chip evacuation and heat management are priorities. Machinists and toolroom technicians in production and job-shop environments are the primary installers.
Designed as an OEM-style reduction sleeve for hydraulic chuck bodies accepting a 1/2 inch OD sleeve with through-coolant capability. Confirm chuck body bore diameter and sleeve retention system before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified toolroom technicians or CNC machine operators. Before inserting or removing any toolholding component, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is placed in an appropriate safe state per shop safety procedures. Verify that the hydraulic chuck body bore and sleeve OD are clean and free of chips or burrs before pressing the sleeve into position. Follow the chuck manufacturer's torque and actuation specifications for the hydraulic clamping port; do not exceed the system's rated clamping pressure.
