The KENNAMETAL 1604706 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMG432FF geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and assigned the KC5010 manufacturer grade. It features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a honed cutting edge style optimized for finishing operations. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, the corner radius is 0.03125 inches (1/32 inch), and the insert length is 1.2208 inches (15.50 mm). With four available cutting edges and a negative rake and side clearance geometry, this insert is designed for high wear-resistance across a range of workpiece materials. It belongs to the KENLOC series and is held using a clamp and pin method.
This insert is suited for finishing operations in turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. Its KC5010 grade targets steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, delivering high to moderate wear-resistance and toughness across those material groups. The DNMG432FF chip breaker geometry is engineered to manage chips effectively at finishing depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). It is appropriate for use in CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job shop environments where tight surface finish tolerances are required.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders that accept DNMG-style inserts with a clamp and pin holding method. Conforms to ANSI insert code DNMG432 and ISO insert code DNMG150408, making it compatible with any toolholder built to those standards.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications for the DNMG clamp and pin system, and inspect the cutting edge visually before resuming cuts.
