The KENNAMETAL 1602604 is a TNMG331FF indexable turning insert from the KENLOC series, manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. It carries the KC5010 grade designation and is designed for finishing operations in turning, facing, and boring applications. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. Six cutting edges are available per insert. The negative rake geometry and honed cutting edge style support controlled chip formation and dimensional consistency during light finishing passes on difficult-to-machine materials.
This insert is suited for finishing cuts on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium in both turning centers and manual lathes. The KC5010 grade provides high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it effective where surface finish and tool life consistency are priorities. It is also rated for use on cast iron and aluminum. The TNMG style and KENLOC series are compatible with standard negative-rake turning toolholders that accept TNMG inserts held by clamp or pin retention. Typical applications include production turning and finish-boring in aerospace, general machining, and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in TNMG-style negative-rake turning toolholders that accept clamp or pin insert retention. Conforms to ANSI insert code TNMG331 and ISO insert code TNMG160404. Compatible with toolholders in the KENLOC series.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench or clamp screw driver specified for the toolholder to secure the insert — do not overtighten the clamp screw. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout control.
