The KENNAMETAL 1601888 is a solid carbide turning insert with a VNMG331FF geometry, offered in the KC5010 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. Designed for the KENLOC insert series, this insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a finished honed cutting edge. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches, the insert length is 16.61 mm (0.654 inches), and the corner radius is 1/64 inches. With four available cutting edges and a chip breaker optimized for finishing operations, this insert is suited for high wear-resistance applications across a range of metallic workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators typically specify this insert for precision finishing passes.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron. It carries ANSI insert code VNMG331 and ISO insert code VNMG160404, and conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards. The KC5010 grade delivers high to moderate wear resistance with balanced toughness, making it well suited for finishing cuts on challenging workpiece materials including P, M, K, N, and S material classifications. It is retained in the toolholder via clamp and pin holding methods.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the toolholder must be secured in the turret before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamp; do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and pin locator for debris or wear before seating a new insert.
