The KENNAMETAL 1601557 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys. It carries the ANSI designation CNMG431FF and the ISO designation CNMG120404, and is coated with TiAlN via a PVD process under the KC5010 grade. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting geometry, while the FF chip breaker is optimized for finishing cuts. The insert measures 12.90 mm (0.5079 inches) in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius. It is part of the KENLOC series and is held by clamp or pin methods.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring applications in both light production and precision finishing contexts. It is designed for use on steel and stainless steel workpieces where high wear resistance is required, with secondary applicability to superalloys and titanium. The KC5010 grade covers material categories P, M, K, N, and S, making it a versatile choice for shops running mixed-material turning programs. It is installed in CNMG-compatible toolholders and is appropriate for CNC lathes and turning centers operated by machinists and tooling professionals.
Designed for use in CNMG431-compatible toolholders from the KENNAMETAL KENLOC series. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium workpieces per material codes P, M, K, N, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque and seat-cleaning procedures. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow ANSI B94 and toolholder manufacturer guidelines for insert indexing and secure clamping.
