The KENNAMETAL 1597226 is a ceramic milling insert designed for high-speed material removal in demanding machining environments. Manufactured to the SDCW1204PDSRGN ISO standard, it features an uncoated (bright) ceramic construction using the KY3500 grade, which is engineered specifically for cutting cast iron. The square insert profile with a 90-degree included angle provides four usable cutting edges. Key dimensional specs include a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.1874-inch thickness, a 0.0313-inch (1/32 inch) corner radius, and a 0.1732-inch hole diameter for screw-type clamping. Right-hand cutting orientation is standard. This insert is installed and managed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators working in precision manufacturing settings.
This insert is sized and graded for milling operations on cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material group K. The KY3500 ceramic grade is suited for high-speed, interrupted, or continuous cuts where thermal resistance and hardness retention matter. The GN chip breaker geometry supports chip control in cast iron milling applications. The SDCW series screw-lock mounting method ensures rigid seating in compatible SDCW-style milling cutter bodies. Typical use cases include face milling and shoulder milling on gray cast iron and ductile iron components in production machining environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for SDCW-series milling cutter bodies accepting a square insert with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thickness, and screw-lock mounting. Confirm cutter body pocket specifications before installation.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians using the screw-lock method standard to SDCW-series cutter bodies. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer when tightening the clamping screw; do not overtighten. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
