The KENNAMETAL 1586646 is a solid carbide milling insert in the ANGT style, manufactured to ISO designation ANGT160608PPERLG and supplied in KENNAMETAL grade KC520M. The insert carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which provides thermal resistance and wear life suited to interrupted cuts and high-speed milling passes. It measures 0.4331 inches wide, 0.6299 inches long, and 0.25 inches thick, with a corner radius of 0.0315 inches (approximately 1/32 inch). The parallelogram insert shape and 85-degree included angle suit shoulder milling and face milling toolholders designed for the ANGT insert family. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and tooling setup technicians working with compatible milling cutters.
This insert is engineered primarily for milling cast iron workpieces, consistent with its K-grade material classification and the LG chip breaker geometry. The LG chip breaker is optimized to manage the short, brittle chips produced when cutting gray cast iron, ductile iron, and similar ferrous materials. The right-hand orientation and screw-in holding method make it compatible with standard ANGT-style milling cutter bodies. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and high-feed milling operations on cast iron components in production machining environments.
Designed as a screw-in replacement insert for ANGT-series milling cutter bodies accepting the ANGT160608 insert size with a 0.1732-inch hole diameter. Compatible with toolholders specifying ISO code ANGT160608PPERLG.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine locked out per facility LOTO procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamp load. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Confirm insert orientation matches the right-hand designation before resuming cutting operations.
