The KENNAMETAL 1560390 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on non-ferrous metals and aluminum. Carrying ANSI code CCGT32505HP and ISO code CCGT09T302, this insert features a PVD-applied TiB2 coating that delivers high wear resistance while maintaining the sharp cutting edge required for clean surface finishes on soft, abrasive, and gummy materials. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting geometry, while the positive rake angle of 15 degrees and honed cutting edge reduce cutting forces and minimize built-up edge on aluminum and other non-ferrous workpieces. Licensed HVAC technicians do not install this part — it is used by machinists and CNC operators in metalworking environments.
The 1560390 insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on non-ferrous metals including aluminum alloys, copper, brass, and similar materials. The HP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing passes where tight tolerances and fine surface finish are the primary goals. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm) and a corner radius of 0.0079 inches, it is best applied in light, high-precision cuts rather than heavy roughing. The screw-on holding method (Torx or similar drive screw) ensures secure seating in compatible CCGT-style toolholders during high-speed finishing runs.
Designed for use in screw-on CCGT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch (0.3750-inch) inscribed circle insert with a 0.1732-inch hole diameter. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for CCGT32505 / CCGT09T302 inserts. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations per manufacturer designation.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct drive screw torque as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide body. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a fresh edge to ensure proper seating and dimensional accuracy.
