The KENNAMETAL 1547308 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ISO designation SEHT1204AFN and manufacturer grade KC510M. It features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering thermal resistance and extended tool life in demanding face and shoulder milling applications. The insert is square in shape with a neutral hand orientation, a positive rake geometry, and a sharp cutting edge style. With four usable cutting edges and a corner radius of 0.0394 inches (1.00 mm), it is designed for productive, consistent material removal. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers of this insert class.
This insert is suited for milling steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its positive rake and sharp edge geometry reduce cutting forces on difficult-to-machine workpieces such as stainless alloys, high-temperature superalloys, and titanium. The SEHT series geometry is commonly run in face mills, shoulder mills, and high-feed milling bodies requiring a screw-retained, single-sided square insert. It performs in both roughing and semi-finishing passes where edge sharpness and coating integrity are critical to part finish and tool life.
Designed for use in milling tool bodies that accept SEHT-series square screw-retained inserts conforming to ANSI code SEHT43A6 and ISO code SEHT1204AFN. Verify pocket geometry, screw size, and seating tolerances against the specific tool body specification before installation.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out. Use the correct torx or hex key to the tool body manufacturer's specified seating procedure - do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated before resuming operation. Rotate to a fresh cutting edge rather than re-running a worn edge to avoid workpiece damage and insert failure.
