The KENNAMETAL 1545215 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal threads in through-hole applications. It produces M5 x 0.8 Metric Coarse threads to a 6H class of fit with a D4 thread limit, making it well-suited for work requiring close dimensional control. The plug chamfer allows the tap to start easily in a drilled hole and progresses the thread form through the workpiece. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers improved surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS taps. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians are the typical users.
This tap is rated for use in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel. It is suited for production and maintenance machining environments where metric through-hole threading is required. The 2-flute spiral point geometry pushes chips ahead of the cutting edge and out through the exit side of the hole, keeping the flutes clear during the cut. With a 0.875-inch thread length and a 2.375-inch overall length (OAL), it fits standard tap holders and CNC tapping chucks used in vertical machining centers, drill presses, and hand tapping operations.
Designed for through-hole tapping in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Fits standard tap holders, floating tap holders, and CNC tapping chucks sized for the 0.194-inch shank diameter. Part of the Kennametal Series 2351T.
Secure the workpiece and ensure the drilled hole diameter is correct for the M5 x 0.8 thread before tapping. Power down or de-energize any machine tool before loading or changing tooling. Use the appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material, particularly when tapping stainless steel. Do not reverse the tap under power without confirming the machine is set for a reversing tapping cycle, as this can break the tap or damage the thread.
