The KENNAMETAL 1544820 is a spiral point tap designed for machine tapping of through holes in a wide range of ferrous materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it offers improved wear resistance and reduced friction compared to uncoated HSS taps. The 1/4-20 UNC thread form, 3-flute configuration, and plug chamfer make it well suited for production environments where chip evacuation forward through the hole is required. It carries an H5 thread limit and a 2B class of fit, meeting standard tolerances for general fastener applications. Right-hand cut only. This tap is used by machinists and maintenance technicians working in manufacturing, fabrication, and repair settings.

This tap is rated for use in cast iron, ductile iron, stainless steel, and steel. The plug chamfer style provides a gradual lead into the cut, distributing cutting load across several threads at the start.
