The KENNAMETAL 1544150 is a metric coarse straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads in a M20x2.50 pitch. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it runs 4 flutes with a plug chamfer that eases entry while maintaining thread form accuracy across the full cutting length. At 4.47 inches overall length with a 2-inch thread length and a 0.652-inch shank diameter, this tap fits standard tap wrenches and hand tapping fixtures used in maintenance, repair, and production environments. The 6H class of fit and D7 thread limit make it well suited for applications requiring standard tolerance internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces.
This tap is intended for hand tapping operations in cast iron and non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, brass, and bronze. The plug chamfer style — typically 3 to 5 threads of lead — makes it the standard choice for through-holes and moderately deep blind holes where a starting taper tap is not required. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians use this style of tap for field repair work, fixture building, and production threading by hand or with a tapping arm.
Designed as a standard metric coarse M20x2.50 hand tap suitable for use with conventional tap wrenches and tapping fixtures that accept a 0.652-inch shank diameter. Rated for cast iron and non-ferrous metal workpiece materials.
Hand tapping should be performed by a machinist or qualified technician using a properly sized tap wrench to maintain axial alignment. Apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material before and during tapping to reduce friction and extend tool life. Advance the tap in short increments and back off periodically to break chips, especially in blind holes. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use and never force a tap that has stopped threading freely.
